services, to patients and healthcare providers- particularly in under-served communities. Medication counseling improves patient adherence to the use of medication as prescribed, health outcome, decreases medication use errors, adverse drug events, and thus healthcare cost Pharmacists, due to time constraints at point of service, may give less priority to medication counseling, compared to filling prescriptions accurately and expeditiously. Patients to a large extent are left to independently seek answers to their usually technical medication related questions, from unvetted internet and or social media sources. |
This can be dangerous. The provision of accurate and timely medication counseling and drug information to patients and health care professionals is an important mechanism to promote safe and effective drug therapy.
